Verizon laid off 13,000 employees, roughly 13% of its workforce. These employees are now left without a means of income and are still using their company discounts to get by, which are valid until late 2026.

T-Mobile has a better idea. The company has announced exclusive discounts for Verizon employees, both former and current. Laid off employees who may want to stop supporting their former company entirely will appreciate T-Mobile's discount.

According to reports here and here, current and former Verizon employees can ask T-Mobile sales representatives to use the promo code "VZEX". This promo code will net Verizon employees free phones and free service for two months.

Verizon's laid off staff have been discussing boycotting the company. Those on Verizon plans are considering switching to an alternative, be it a major carrier or an MVNO.

T-Mobile has found an excellent method to capitalize on the current situation. The "VZEX" promo offers better price savings than Verizon's employee discount, which expires for former representatives in December 2026.

There has been no official announcement by T-Mobile for the "VZEX" promo code yet. It's only a matter of time before word spreads. Verizon employees questioning the purpose of switching are being told by other laid off staff to do it out of principle.

The company laid off 13,000 people because CEO Dan Schulman wants to restructure Verizon to improve profitability in the wireless sector. Verizon has fallen behind T-Mobile and AT&T, and Schulman says the company needs to focus on internal changes rather than more expensive consumer plans.

How this affects you

If T-Mobile's "VZEX" promo code goes viral, it can positively affect both Verizon customers and employees.

Laid off Verizon employees need all the financial help they can get, and this will ease their burdens considerably. Verizon staff still employed may use the promo code too, which could lead to some of them making the decision to leave the company of their own volition.

If Verizon fears a mass exodus, it may panic and start rolling back its controversial practices. It may even offer discounts to its customers, hoping to make them stay. T-Mobile gets good PR from the "VZEX" promo code, but laid off Verizon staff are sure to welcome it.
