Verizon has laid off 13,000 employees under a new initiative intended to improve profitability. Employees received an email from CEO Dan Schulman, allegedly full of platitudes and fluff.

Verizon employees took to social media platforms like Reddit, discussing their career at the company and their future. The email from CEO Dan Schulman allegedly framed the layoffs as a positive change and something that will benefit the employees being let go.

Employees who have been laid off shared their worries, while others wondered if they're going to get the email too. With these conversations came new accusations against Verizon. Concerns were raised about the company devising plans to make their jobs harder.

From how Schulman worded the email, some employees are asking whether the commission system at stores will remain. Verizon employees earn commissions on sales or when they get you to sign up for a new service you didn't ask for. According to our contact at Verizon, this is the best way for employees to earn large amounts.

These accusations are similar to other allegations made against T-Mobile. Some T-Mobile representatives are convinced that T-Life was designed to make them redundant, force them to quit their jobs, and allow T-Mobile to close stores.

Verizon CEO Dan Schulman has said the company needs to stop increasing plan pricing, instead focusing on cutting redundant roles. T-Mobile may do the same thing, though it's still increasing prices on the regular. Just yesterday, customers were informed they would be charged for Apple TV on T-Mobile On Us from January.

How this affects you

For Verizon employees still with the company, the removal of commissions on sales may be enough to start making them look around for new jobs. Which is exactly what Verizon allegedly wants.

Verizon's customers will be negatively impacted because they will be forced to rely on AI customer support more often. Employees who stay may be found in worse moods because of the lack of commissions and the general fear for their careers, leading to an overall diminished quality of interactions with customers.

T-Mobile and AT&T may emerge victorious in the short term as Verizon's talented workers reenter the job market.
